Orthodontics Near You

Straight teeth are important not only because they can significantly enhance your mental health, but they aid in your ability to bite and chew, and therefore properly digest your food. If you’re dealing with more than just one or two unaligned teeth, your dentist in West Kelowna may recommend undergoing orthodontic treatment. Over an extended period, your teeth will be encouraged to shift into a healthier, more uniform position.

At Westbank Dental Care & Implant Center, we provide orthodontic treatment to patients in need of it, specifically, clear aligner therapy. For more information about this method, feel free to call our dental clinic when you can.

How Do They Work?

Clear aligners are, evidently, trays of high-grade dental plastic that slip snugly over your teeth. The pressure they exert will cause bone regeneration and movement, causing your teeth to shift as desired. The most well-known form of clear aligner therapy is Invisalign treatment.

Here are the steps involved in this process:

  1. Initial consultation: First things first, an orthodontist or a dentist near you will examine your oral cavity and make impressions of your teeth. This information is used to create a 3D model of your smile.
  2. Treatment plan: A plan is devised based on your unique situation. It outlines how your teeth will move during the duration of the treatment. You will also be able to see a preview of what your teeth will look like once your smile has been adjusted.
  1. Aligner creation: A series of clear aligners, tailored to your oral dimensions, are fabricated for you. Each aligner will be slightly different from the previous one, which encourages your smile to continually move.
  2. Wearing the aligners: For this process to be as effective as possible, you need to wear each set of aligners for at least 22 hours per day for two weeks. After this period is up, you’ll be provided with a new set of trays. You can take out the aligners to eat and brush your teeth.
  3. Progress checkups: Your orthodontist will monitor your progress every six to eight weeks and give you the next set of aligners during routine checkups.
  4. Completion: Once you have worn all your designated aligners, your smile will officially be straightened! As is common, your orthodontist will most likely recommend that you wear a retainer, mainly while sleeping, to prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original position.

Should you have concerns or queries about anything or at any point during your treatment, don’t hesitate to let your orthodontic team know. Your comfort is equally as important as getting your oral health back on track.
