What are They?

Inlays are designed to fit snugly within the grooves that reside on the chewing surfaces of the tooth.
Onlays
An onlay is a larger type of restoration that is used to repair more extensive damage, such as a large cavity or a crack. Onlays are made from the same materials as inlays and are adhered on the top of the tooth with dental cement as well.

The Process
Getting inlays or onlays requires at least two sessions.
For your first visit, an impression of the affected tooth is taken to create a custom-fitted restoration. A temporary restoration is placed on the tooth to protect it in the meantime. During your follow-up visit, the temporary covering is removed, the final inlay or onlay is fitted and bonded in place, and then the tooth is fully polished.
It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene and regular dental checkups and cleanings after your treatment; otherwise, you might need to receive more extensive and invasive care in the future.
